à la mode was created as an outlet for a lifetime of pent up creative energy. While the business began in 2005, I have been designing, creating, crafting, and dreaming of it as far back as I can remember.
I studied architecture and interior design in school. After working for an architect for 2 years, I headed to the non profit world and spent my next 10 years in marketing, pr, and fund raising. Ã la mode allows me to meld my creative nature and work experiences.
Items featured are designed and created by hand (mine). I like to combine simple details, texture and color with industrial elements. As I learned in architecture, form follows function. My bags are all designed to be functional, comfortable, and fashionable. My switch plates are products of my desire to make everyday utilitarian objects interesting and fun. My jewelry came about when I was looking for modern, inexpensive, thought provoking items for myself.
I am influenced by everything around me particularly modern art and architecture, minimal design, pop culture, texture, and text. Art should be accessible and part of our every day lives.
